Much of what is covered in these posts concerns human rights violations that occur in developing countries where much of our apparel and textiles production is done these days. Imagine my distress to learn that a designer like Alexander Wang may be subjecting workers to sweatshop conditions in NYC’s Chinatown.
According to recent stories in The New York Daily News, WWD and New York Fashion, 30 workers from Alexander Wang’s Chinatown factory have filed suit against the hip designer alleging sweatshop conditions. Wenyu Lu claims he passed out after working an 84 hour week in the designer’s Chinatown factory.
Wang and his representatives vehemently deny these accusations. Stay tuned for more on this story as it develops.
