Back in December we reported on this site about “Killer Jeans” and the major brands who have and have not banned the production of such jeans in their line. Here is the most recent information regarding this issue.
The Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) began pressing companies in February to ban the practice of sandblasting, the process of creating that worn look to our jeans that are considered in style. This process has proven lethal to many of the workers who do the sandblasting as the large amounts of silica dust produced often leads to silicosis, a pulmonary disease that can be lethal.
An article in the Guardian.co.uk by John Hooper, Dolce & Gabbana in dock over ‘killer jeans’ points out that CCC has singled out Dolce & Gabbana. When contacted by CCC, Dolce & Gabbana apparently replied that “it did not interest them”. We urge you to put pressure on Dolce & Gabbana by refusing to purchase their products until they ban sandblasting jeans.
Fairwell until next time……..
In that case, their products “do not interest me”. Thanks for calling attention to this issue, and for pointing out the callous attitude of D&G. No surprise – I always felt they were more interested in superficial veneer than real substance.
