Killer Jeans

Do you like your jeans to have that worn look even when they are new? Have you ever considered how that worn look denim was created? Sandblasting. That’s right, just like old buildings. Only the workers doing the sandblasting often have no protection from the dirty air they are breathing resulting in a high number of workers diagnosed with the deadly lung disease silicosis.

The Clean Clothes Campaign has launched an appeal to jean manufacturers to stop the practice of sandblasting denim. Several companies and retailers have already banned the sale of these jeans, among them Levi-Strauss & Co. and Hennes & Mauritz (H&M).

If you are interested in joining the appeal, click on this link to Clean Clothes Campaign and you will be taken to their site where you may read more about this important issue and sign their online appeal.

I leave you with these words by William Faulkner,

“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty, and truth, and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world would do this, it would change the earth.”

Until next time…
